Germantown Public Parks

 Germantown has two dozen parks, sports complexes and other green spaces, covering more than 700 acres of recreational land. They provide athletic fields and courts, picnic areas, biking/walking trails and playgrounds, reflecting a Parks and Recreation department goal of placing recreational and leisure opportunities within a half mile of every home.

Wolf River Nature Area (WRNA)

This protected area along the city's northern boundary is a focal point for the Germantown greenway. It is a place for visitors to experience, learn and explore the many facets of the great outdoors. Parking is available adjacent to Wolf River Boulevard across from Poplar Estates Park, next to the Texas Gas pumping station and at Nashoba Park. When using the greenway, dress according to the weather in comfortable clothes. Do not wear open-toe shoes. Bring drinking water and bug repellent. Off-Leash Dog Area at Forgey Park
1695 Riverdale Road

 Come on out with canine friends to the off-leash area for dogs. Parking is available off East Churchill Downs. Pet owners are responsible for removing animal waste. Bags are provided. View the map.

Disc Golf Course at Johnson Road Park
2970 Johnson Road

 The Disc Golf Course will open in Mid-March.

Comprehensive Parks

Cameron-Brown Park
This 55-acre park on Farmington Boulevard Contains four lighted baseball/softball fields, one lighted high school regulation baseball field, one lighted combination football/soccer field, a batting cage, two lighted tennis courts, 1.5 miles of paved hiking trails, a large pavilion, a three-acre lake, two playgrounds, 32 picnic sites with tables, grills and trash receptacles, electronic scoreboards, concession buildings, restrooms and water fountains.

C.O. Franklin Park
This 50-acre park on Poplar Pike at Melanie Smith Lane contains baseball fields, two football/soccer fields, two ADA-accessible playgrounds, six lighted tennis courts, restrooms, a drinking fountain and parking. The park is also the site of the Pickering Community Center, the Morgan Woods Theatre and the Germantown Charity Horse Show arena and stables.

Houston Levee Park
This 37-acre park south of Houston High School on Wolf River Boulevard contains a stocked, four-acre lake with a fountain, three lighted softball/baseball fields, four lighted tennis courts, the Houston High School baseball field, a 13,000 square-foot skate park, lighted walking trails, pavilions, picnic sites with tables, grills and trash receptacles, a concession building, restrooms and drinking fountains.

Municipal Park
This 17-acre park in Municipal Square contains six lighted tennis courts, a tennis pro shop, two fishing lakes, the Kiwanis Pavilion, a lighted softball/soccer field, 10 picnic sites with tables, grills and trash receptacles, a fire ring, a sand volleyball court, restrooms and parking. The park is bounded by several municipal buildings and includes the historic Gray House.

Johnson Road Park
This 57.5-acre park east of Johnson Road and north of Poplar Avenue contains two lighted soccer fields, two lighted tennis courts, two croquet courts, a nine-hole disc golf course, two ADA-accessible playground sites, a pavilion, picnic sites with tables, grills and benches, two lakes with a fountain and water feature in one lake, paved trails, a concession building, restrooms and parking.

Greenway
Several miles of a planned 22-mile trail system are complete offering a paved pathway for walkers, runners and bicyclists. Sections are open along the Wolf River, in Nashoba Park and in Houston Levee Park. Designed as a linear park, the Germantown Greenway will eventually encircle the City, linking parks, schools and neighborhoods.

Wolf River Nature Area
Nestled along the Wolf River, the 70-acre nature reserve partners with the Greenway to present a river's edge experience. The area features seven educational stations, several plant displays, scenic overlooks/rest areas and restrooms. Parking is available at three areas along Wolf River Boulevard, through entrances across from Poplar Estates Park and adjacent to the natural gas pumping station and at Nashoba Park.

Neighborhood parks

Cone Park
This 1.2-acre park on Poplar Pike in Cedar Lake subdivision contains an ADA-accessible tot lot, open play area, walking trail and drinking fountain.

Depot Park
This two-acre park on West Street at the Norfolk Southern Railway contains the historic Train Depot which serves as a museum with a fountain, flowerbeds and trees. This park is the site of spring and fall depot concerts and has limited parking.

Dogwood Park
This six-acre park off Ashmere Road adjacent to Dogwood Elementary contains a playground, two lighted tennis courts, a .25 mile walking trail, an outdoor basketball court, a ball diamond, a bike trail between the parking lot and the school, six picnic tables, grills, trash containers and a drinking fountain.

Farmington Park
This 10-acrepark adjacent to Farmington Elementary contains two lighted tennis courts, an ADA-accessible playground tot lot, a lighted soccer/baseball field, basketball courts, two junior t-ball fields, restrooms, parking and a drinking fountain.

Forgey Park
This five-acre park on New Riverdale Road south of Nashoba Road contains two picnic tables, grills, an ADA-accessible playground, a jogging and walking trail, benches, a small lake and a large open playing area.

Grove Park
This 13-acre park within the Grove Park subdivision contains an eight-acre lake and trails. Benches, a picnic area and a playground are scheduled to be installed in the spring of 2005.

Howard-McVay Park
This 14-acre park is located on McVay Road at Howard Road, divided by Turpin's Glen Road. Its heavily-wooded west section contains a pavilion, two playgrounds (one ADA accessible), picnic tables, grills, benches, drinking fountain, parking and trash receptacles. The east section contains a lake with a walking trail and wooded area.

Morgan Woods Park
This 14-acre park between C.O. Franklin Park and Oaklawn Gardens subdivision contains hiking trails and 10 picnic sites with tables and grills.

Germantown Station Park
This six-acre park on Laurinburg Circle contains a two-acre fishing lake with a fountain, an ADA-accessible playground, a sand volleyball court, eight picnic sites with tables, grills, trash receptacles and a drinking fountain.

Nashoba Park
This 18-acre park between the former Wal-MART and the Wolf River contains the first completed portion of the Greenway, a stocked eight-acre lake, a half-mile paved trail along the river, benches, grills and trash receptacles and is connected to the western section of the Greenway.

Poplar Estates Park
This 10-acre park at the north end of Poplar Estates Parkway contains playground equipment, a half-court basketball court, picnic sites with tables, grills and trash receptacles, two large open play areas, walking trails, a wooded area and a drinking fountain.

Riverdale Park
This 20-acre park is adjacent to Riverdale Elementary and contains a street hockey rink, a pavilion, picnic sites with tables, grills and trash receptacles, a lighted softball field, a batting cage, a concession building, restrooms, two lighted tennis courts, two small softball practice fields, ADA-accessible playground equipment and a drinking fountain. Parking is available on Nashoba Road.

 

Playing fields and courts

 The Parks and Recreation department supports an extensive sports program by maintenance and operation of 26 tennis courts, four football fields, nine soccer fields, 15 baseball fields, five softball fields and two croquet courts. In addition to facilities within the City parks, four other areas have been developed primarily for team sports.

Bob Hailey Athletic Complex
This 44-acre complex on Farmington Boulevard just east of Cameron-Brown Park contains four lighted grass infield baseball fields, three lighted football fields, a batting cage, electronic scoreboards, concession buildings, restrooms, walking trails including 600 feet of boardwalk, drinking fountains, parking and seven acres of wetlands.

Cloyes Park
This 20-acre park off Cross Country (north of fire station #1) contains two lighted youth soccer fields, bleachers, concession building, restrooms, electronic scoreboards, trash receptacles and parking.

Germantown Soccerplex
This 20-acre complex on C.D. Smith and adjacent to Germantown Middle School contains four regulation-size lighted soccer fields, a concession stand, restrooms, bleacher seating, electronic scoreboards, parking and a walking trail.

Hacks Cross Road Park
This seven-acre park off Cross Country and adjacent to Germantown Elementary contains the Red Devil baseball field and parking.

Bicycle System

The Germantown Board of Mayor and Aldermen has approved a Bicycle Facilities Plan that aims to extend the city’s exixting bike trails to neighboring communities and expand the overall network of lanes throughout the city.
